Getting Zapped Is A Good Thing

So, I've had my home TENS unit since Thursday and life is better. Don't get me wrong, I still hurt, but this at least takes the edge off. I can stand up from the couch without J's help now, and I don't walk with as much of a limp. I've been trying to remember how to walk normally. It's been a while since I could walk without limping, or even walk without being mostly hunched over. I even finally got some real sleep the other night. I was back and forth from the bed to the couch for a little bit at first, as usual, but then I remembered that I had the means to zap myself now whenever needed. So I hooked my electrodes up, set the timer for 45 minutes, grabbed my ice pack, and laid back down in bed. It was about 2 A.M. when I laid down and I was out before the timer went off. I had forgotten what peaceful, restful sleep felt like, and I didn't wake up until 11! I didn't even hear my alarm go off. I felt wonderful, felt alive again, felt on top of the world, like I could do anything. In fact, I felt so wonderfully terrific, that J and I were even discussing the idea of whether or not I thought I could go back to work until my surgery, as long as I kept my TENS unit with me at all times to turn on when needed. I was seriously considering discussing it with Dr. Rupert.
Then I get a call from J yesterday, saying that we've been invited to go swimming, drinking, and hanging out with some friends. He was at work and wanted me to get our stuff together and meet him at work when he got off so we could go directly there. I'm still feeling good, didn't even have to zap myself at all Sunday. Then I tried to carry our cooler to my truck. It probably weighed about 7 pounds give or take a few, but it brought me not only to my knees, but back to reality as well. There's no chance I could go back to work before surgery. My back and down my right leg was on fire, and the stabbing pain was so intense that I was immediately nauseous. Luckily I was still wearing the electrodes, but I couldn't get hooked up fast enough. I went to sleep with my ice pack and the timer set again last night.
